Dear EUROPT members,

friendly regards! We hope you feel fine. With this e-mail and the attached documents we, Florian Jarre and Gerhard-Wilhelm Weber, would like to give to you some basic and recent information about our EUROPT, EURO Working Group on Continuous Optimization. More details you can find in EUROPT annual report for 2004 which we wrote together with our Honorary Coordinators Tamas Terlaky and Tibor Illes; please find europt2004.doc enclosed. Furthermore, in enclosed optimiz. price for young researchers.doc, you find a call for nominations.

Now, our EUROPT homepage is hosted by Institute of Applied Mathematics (IAM) of Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara, Turkey. The new internet address is

                         http://www.iam.metu.edu.tr/EUROPT/.

This home-page contains valuable information related to the various scientific activities of EUROPT and its members in continuous optimization and related topics from OR. All those who are interested in EUROPT and would like to participate in the activities of  EUROPT can register here via internet.  Başak Akteke became the new webmaster and helped to update the homepage information of EUROPT, and Mr. Köksal Yücesoy takes care of the data base. Furthermore, our EUROPT  representation at EURO homepage, http://www.euro-online.org/, is supervised now by C. Vogelbusch from Chair of Mathematical Optimization, University of Düsseldorf, Germany.

The new year 2004 will contain a number of  highlights which EUROPT

is looking and working for. These scientific meetings will take place in Greece and Turkey in July 2004, and they are, in chronological order: Workshop on Challenges of Continuous Optimization in Theory and Applications, Rhodes, Greece, July 2-3, 2004,  EURO XX Conference in Rhodes, Greece, July 5-7, 2004, and, last but not least, our long event EURO Summer Institute 2004 - ESI XXII – Optimization and Data Mining in Ankara, Turkey, July 9-25, 2004. Closer information about all these three meetings can be found by links under the Scientific Events page of our EUROPT homepage. As the preparations for these meetings proceed very well, information about invited lectures and committees may already be given:
